Although renowned for its beaches, Byron Bay offers the traveler a lot more in the hinterlands

Minyon falls located in the Nightcap National Park is a spectacular spot to escape the heat and the crowds that often descend on Byron especially during the holidays. The Nightcap National Park is itself a part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Site.
You can visit Minyon Falls lookout if you are after a quick stop and a picnic, or you can take any number of walks including the Minyon Falls loop walk which takes you down to the bottom of the falls. A dip in the pools are well worth the effort.
Aside from the falls, there are plenty of unique Australian flora & fauna to observe. You’re almost guaranteed to see a goanna and any number of birds.
Generale, Minyon Falls are only a 45 minute drive from Byron Bay and you’ll experience a slice of the Australian subtropical rainforest environment, offering stunning views all the way to the coast, with a nice refreshing dip as a reward.
The surf was a little to rough on Christmas day so we decided to visit Minyon Falls. It was well worth it and made for a rememberable Christmas Lunch.
