It is a large new University (founded in 2004) with several campuses and includes the Northern Territory Medical Program and a new Business School on the Darwin Waterfront. There are also several research centres such as the Menzies School of Health and the North Australian Centre for Oil and Gas . CDU is a is a member of the Group ofInnovative Research Universities.

There are around 1,000 international students in Darwin but this is growing.

All of the major areas of University study are available. It is a dual sector university which means that trade and vocational courses are also available along with the traditional higher education degrees.

The University is ranked 350-400 in the world in the latest Times Higher Education University Rankings and is the youngest Australian University to be named in the THE Top 100 under 50 placing it in the top 100 Universities in the world aged under 50 年. This makes it the 17th ranked university in Australia out of 40.

Darwin’s weather is perfect from May to September when mild and sunny days are followed by balmy nights – wonderful weather for enjoying the great outdoors, day and night. The dry season is also the peak tourist season when Darwin receives the most visitors. Being a monsoonal climate there is a distinctive wet season period, with most rain falling between December and March. There can be high intensity storms at this time, often providing spectacular lightning displays.

Getting Around

But Darwin is a surprisingly affluent, cosmopolitan, youthful and multicultural city, thanks in part to an economic boom fuelled by the mining industry and tourism. It’s a city on the move but there’s a small-town feel and a laconic, relaxed vibe that fits easily with the tropical climate. Here non-Aboriginal meets Aboriginal (Larrakia), urban meets remote, and industry meets idleness.

Darwin has plenty to offer the traveller. Boats bob around the harbour, chairs and tables spill out of streetside restaurants and bars, museums celebrate the city’s past, and galleries showcase the region’s rich Indigenous art. Darwin’s cosmopolitan mix − more than 50 nationalities are seamlessly represented here − is typified by the wonderful markets held throughout the dry season.

The Northern Territory (abbreviated as NT) is a federal Australian territory in the centre and central northern regions. It shares borders with Western Australia to the west (129th meridian east), South Australia to the south (26th parallel south), and Queensland to the east (138th meridian east).

To the north, the territory is bordered by the Timor Sea, the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Carpentaria. Despite its large area—over 1,349,129 square kilometres (520,902 平方英里), making it the third largest Australian federal division—it is sparsely populated. 人口 233,300 it is the least populous of Australia’s eight major states and territories, having less than half as many people as Tasmania.^[1]

The archaeological history of the Northern Territory begins over 40,000 years ago when Indigenous Australians settled the region.Makassan traders began trading with the indigenous people of the Northern Territory for trepang from at least the 18th century onwards, and very likely for 300 years prior to that.

The coast of the territory was first seen by Europeans in the 17th century. The British were the first Europeans to attempt to settle the coastal regions in the 19th century; however no attempt was successful until the establishment of a settlement at Port Darwin in 1869. Today the economy is based on tourism, especially Kakadu National Park in the Top End and the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park (Ayers Rock) in central Australia, and mining.

The capital city is 达尔文. The population is not concentrated in coastal regions but rather along the Stuart Highway. The other major settlements are (in order of size) Palmerston, Alice Springs, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, and Tennant Creek.

Residents of the Northern Territory are often known simply as ‘Territorians’, or more informally as ‘Top Enders’ and ‘Centralians’.
