Cairns

Cairns is the heart of Tropical North Queensland and Australia’s primary gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.

Cairns is a vibrant, eclectic city framed by the spectacular twin backdrops of rainforest mountain ranges and the sparkling Coral Sea.

Cairns is an adventure-lovers paradise with numerous tours and adrenalin activities on offer. And with hundreds of tours visiting the Great Barrier Reef each year, you’re sure to find one, or a couple, to try.

Enjoy one of Australia’s most scenic drives along the Captain Cook highway north from Cairns. You will pass beautiful Ellis beach, Palm Cove, Kewarra beach and an hour later arrive at Port Douglas, a holiday town favoured by American presidents and celebrities.

Further down the road you’ll find Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest. The Daintree region is undeniably spectacular and is uniquely accessible to travellers. The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest surviving tropical rainforest on earth, and is a site of exceptional beauty and significance as the region that contains the most species of plants and animals in Australia.

Capricorn

Taking its name from the Tropic of Capricorn, this region is home to many remarkable historic towns and natural wonders like Rockhampton and the Great Barrier Reef. Not to mention its scenic coastline from Yeppoon to Emu Park where you will find no less than 13 warm sandy isolated beaches.

Fraser Coast

The Fraser Coast region is a rare destination, filled with natural wonders and some of the world’s most unique attractions. It boasts World Heritage listed Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world, and the Great Sandy Strait with its calm protected waters and abundant marine life. And then there’s Hervey Bay, the whale watching capital of Australia and a popular access point to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

Fraser Island

This is nature at its awe-inspiring best. Four wheel drive along the highway of sand on the ocean beaches or explore the sandy tracks that lead through thick forest to secret lakes, hidden in subtropical rainforest, their glassy surfaces reflecting the vegetation and deep blue sky.

Sunshine Coast

The Great Barrier Reef

One of Australia’s most remarkable natural gifts, the Great Barrier Reef is blessed with the breathtaking beauty of the world’s largest coral reef. The reef contains an abundance of marine life and comprises of over 3000 individual reef systems and coral cays and literally hundreds of picturesque tropical islands with some of the worlds most beautiful sun-soaked, golden beaches.

Mackay

• warm humid summer, mild dry winter (coastal elevated hinterlands and coastal south-east) Brisbane, Bundaberg, Rockhampton
